Portland Bird Observatory

Hurrah happy days, my first Yellow-browed Warbler this Autumn. With a couple seen on the island, and one ringed at the Obs this morning, I was banking on seeing at least one today. And so it proved as I drove into the Obs car park and was on one within a few minutes.

Not clear views, just the faintest glimpse, followed up by another quick view as it moved around the front garden calling as it passed from tree to tree. Click Here of a photo of it when it was trapped in the mist nets this morning. Also here 2 Chiffchaffs.

In the Obs Quarry a male Blackcap and another Chiffchaff close-by.

Sadly no photos of the Yellow-browed Warbler just a view of the stormy sea to the south-east.

Broadcroft Quarry Lane and Horse Paddocks.

A very windy and blustery day with the wind coming up over the island from the south-east. Just 1 Chiffchaff and a Blackbird along the lane, with singles of Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Meadow Pipit in the lower horse paddock, where there were 54 Jackdaws, 26 Herring Gulls and a pair of Stonechats.

Here are a couple of images from today:

In the shelter of the brambles in the lower paddock there was a male Blackcap, Meadow Pipit and.......

.....this male Stonechat with his mate just out of shot.
