Wakeham

Evening
An evening walk to Rufus Castle and back, and en route a family of Blackcaps in the quarry behind Bumpers Lane. Also there a Chiffchaff singing.

Morning
Well the moth trap went out last night at 10:00pm and was back in at 1:00am. There were moths everywhere, with dozens of Underwings on my neighbours white garage wall attracted by my actinic lights.

This morning I did a count up and had 69 moths of at least 28 species (though this species figure may well be more as there are a few species of pug still to identify.

Highlights were 2 Elephant Hawk-moths (Deilephila elpenor), 4 White-plume Moths (Pterophorus pentadactyla), 6 Riband Waves (Idaea aversata), 6 Brown-tails (Euproctis chrysorrhoea), 1 Clouded Silver (Lomographa temerata) and 1 Lesser Yellow Underwing (Noctua comes)

Other moths were: 6 Brimstone moth, 10 Heart & Darts, 1 The Flame, 2 Willow Beauty, 2 Smoky Wainscot, 4 Garden Grass-veneer and 1 Silver Y,

To be confirmed:
Moth 1 -  Either Orchard or Apple Ermine (1)
Moth 2 - Dotted Ermel, Ethmia dodecea  (1)
Moth 3 - is a Cnephasia sp, gen det job  (1)
Moth 4 - is one of the Argyresthiidae species  (1)
Moth 5 - Cochylis molliculana, a south coast speciality.
Moth 6 - Looks like a Gynnidomorpha luridana but not 100% sure   (1)
Moth 7 - Barred Fruit-tree TortrixPandemis cerasana  (1)
Moth 8 - Possibly a well-worn Heart & Dart   (1)
Moth 9 - Large Yellow Underwing, Noctua pronuba  (1)
